In 2000, CBC founded Women In Scripture (WIS), a weekly Bible study with the purpose of offering women a secure place to study God’s Word, laugh, cry, talk, share and grow in the Lord. Since then, dozens of women from the Lilburn community and surrounding areas have benefited from this insightful, in-depth study.

The 2015-16 Women in Scripture Study: The Book of Acts

The book of Acts forms the bridge between the earthly life of Christ and the beginnings of the church. It is highly selective in its content and tells the exciting story of the first 30 years of the Christian faith. The book is invaluable as the background history for most of the New Testament letters. Without it those letters would be far more difficult to understand.

When Luke and Acts (both by the same author) are joined together, they offer a compelling account of the foundation and initial development of the Christian faith. Their style and literary quality are unsurpassed in the New Testament. Luke includes about 80 geographical references and mentions over 100 people by name in Acts. His precision in citing locations and titles was once challenged by critics but is now verified by archaeological evidence. To permit an adequate treatment of the book, the study of Acts will take place over two years, with year one covering chapters 1-14 and year two covering the remaining chapters.

Schedule: The Book of Acts (part 1) is a 26-week course divided into two semesters: September 8/9 through November 10/11, 2015, and January 5/6 through April 26/27, 2016. No class April 5/6, 2016 (Spring Break).
